About The Unarchiver The Unarchiver is the world’s favorite RAR opener for Mac. The Unarchiver is a small and easy to use program that can unarchive many different kinds of archive files. Unlike Mac’s native tool it’s sleeker and supports all known archive types. Set it as the default archive opener in two clicks. Free of charge, free from extra purchases. The Unarchiver reads any archive, even non-Latin ones. It will open common formats such as Zip, RAR (including v5), 7-zip, Tar, Gzip and Bzip2. It will also open many older formats, such as StuffIt, DiskDoubler, LZH, ARJ and ARC. The Unarchiver is the world’s favorite RAR opener for Mac.

While I don’t pretend to understand how many of the functions my MAC does actually happen, archiving and compression are mysteries to me.

I don’t care to unlock the mystery, but I do need to have a tool I can use for some of the formats that my macOS doesn’t seem to handle and archive well enough. With additional support for AES encryption, Zip64 extensions for large files, Mac OS extensions of many different kinds, and several unusual compression methods. The Unarchiver for Mac is a much more capable replacement for 'Archive Utility.app', the built-in archive extraction software on macOS. The Unarchiver is designed to handle many more formats than Archive Utility, and to better fit in with the design of the Finder.
